I play at Robinson Ranch a lot, but enjoy the difference in course set up and how it plays. Love the shaved areas around the greens where you can putt or chip.

Links golf with shaved "Bucking Turtle" greens. Very strategic golf course! Chip shots that could be played 7 different ways with 7 different clubs. Need to chip and pitch well or you'll be 3 putting!

Best course in the area, sometimes pace of play is a little slow, they do not have marshalls at this course. If you play early there is not any time issues.

One of my two favorite courses - the other one is Tetherow in Bend, OR. It has a linksy and kind of out-in-nature feel, is in outstanding condition and has very large, difficult greens. This is a course for real golfers - not people who want a "name" course or an easy course or even one with great views. I would have thought that it would have been "discovered" and really crowded, but apparently not. Most times the group I am in feel like it is our own country club course.

I drive 30 miles each way to play this course when there are 5 city and county courses that are much closer. As a senior I can play LA City for $20, and county for even less! But I like this course for the quiet, rustic out of the way setting and the overall condition of the course. The greens are expansive and none are flat. Many a time that I have 3 putted 3-5 greens in a round...and I am an 11 handicap and a fairly decent putter. Overall the best $ value within 50 miles.

This is a great links layout set in a wide arroyo, and it can get very challenging when the wind blows. Both the fairways and greens are VERY fast, which has its plusses and minuses. To boot, the greens have a LOT of contour, with multiple landing areas on each green no more than 10 feet in diameter. They border on unfair, and the ball will roll off the green easily or from one level to another if you don't stick it. They do roll true, but you sure don't want to be putting from above the hole. In general, you don't want to be past the hole either, as many greens have either eight foot drops behind them or OB or eco zones. Bunkers are steep and difficult.

It is a links course and the greens are very difficult to read and put. However, I really enjoy the course, the pace is usually goo during the week and the price is great.

Nice course, good layout, certainly plays different than a lot of SoCal courses, Only downer was the pace of play.

Links style layout. Fairways are fast and good quality ( you can take a nice divot and not break your wrist). Greens are fast and generally in good condition. The only downside is where the crew places some of the hole cuts. Some of the greens have steep slopes and they put some of the holes where it is impossible to lag a ball and stop it anywhere near the hole. Otherwise, it is always a good time had by all.

The greens were terrible, on one hole we had Electrical wires sticking out of the ground! Pin placement was so poor that two holes were unplayable. The only positive was the price. Had I paid $100 to play I would have asked for my money back.

Course offers a challenge no matter what your playing ability. One draw back was maintenance crews cutting the fairways in front of you where you plan to hit. They did not stop, nor pull over or shut off their machines which was distracting. This went on for six holes in the front nine. Complained to personnel in the pro shop at the turn to the 10th tee. They felt it was our problem not theirs. We realize they have to cut the fairway, but give a golfer a break, how about just getting out of the way for golfers to hit their shots.

I played this course as part of the SCGA Summer sieres event and paid more than the going rate for a round of golf but I still had a great time. I would recommend this course for those of you in the area.

LOVE this course. Links style. Course knowledge a MUST! Must play a few times to learn her. I play here all the time and it is worth the drive. Some really challenging holes with forced carries and greens that will give you FITS! (local hint: all greens break towards the front gate!) have fun!

Impressed with the course but not the pro shop staff, they were rude. Beverage cart girl drove away after seeing me wave at her, no I was not flirting, I wanted a beer! They need to mark the perimeter of the greens better so you know when you are actually putting. this is a rules issue and for our group a money issue.

Always fun except when the wind blows. It can then be impossible. The greens can get too fast which will lead to many 3 putts or more. Love the great draft beers in the clubhouse.

All the consistent comments from the other reviewers should tell you this is a place you should play. If you love the game, this will open new challanges not found on any other course in Southern California. I probably should know, I play 100 time a year on 15 different courses, NONE are anything like Rustic Canyon. We always look forward to playing here.

Great links style course with fast greens and a few forced carries. Challenging holes with undulating greens which can have approach shots roll all directions off the green. Worth the extra money for the different experience.

Rare & excellent Scottish Links-style course. Requires comprehensive shot-making skills. Not your average muni...best public course in Los Angeles or Ventura County. And it has a great practice facility. Nature remodeled a few holes after fires & floods - actually improved the track. A unique & satisfying experience - time after time.

A wonderful experieince. No houses, no trees, barancas and canyons. The ambiance is such that you feel you are truely in the California Native area enjoying the best game in the world. GPS in the carts is nice but playing with a local helps with the lay-ups. We try and play this course every 3 months. Voted best new public course in the US by Golf Digest when it opened.
